Explorer’s Day

On Monday 13th June the whole school gathered on the field to find a heap of unwanted rubbish. They discussed what they could do with the tins, plastic bottles and cardboard boxes. Then they went back to the classroom to discuss this issue further. During the day, each year group re-used a piece of unwanted waste to create a bug hotel, a bird feeder or a plant pot. The children also looked at what we can do in the local area to help with unwanted waste. They used a map of the local area to locate different types of places that help the community such as charity shops, Summers Lane Reuse & Recycling Centre and the charging stations for electric cars. To finish off the day, the children looked at the similarities and differences between electric and petrol operated cars. They designed their own environmentally friendly car showing off their creativity with how it might be operated.
