Black History Month

Osidge school have been extremely busy this week with their Black History Month activities.

Reception have been learning about traditional African tales and have learnt all about Anansi the Spider. They even created their own Anansi spider mask and have enjoyed retelling the story!

As our theme for Black History Month focuses on the Windrush generation, Year 1 and 2 have learnt about the famous TV presenter, Floella Benjamin. We have been reading about her journey from the Caribbean to England and have discussed the things she might have been looking forward to. Year 3 and 4 have focused on the racial discrimination people faced and have written speech bubbles on any unfair treatment they received. Years 5 and 6 have written postcards pretending they were a child from the Caribbean who has moved to England as part of the Windrush generation.  They have written postcards to their friends back home explaining what their life is like in London and how they are feeling.

Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 have also taken part in some exciting workshops. Year 1 and Year 2 have been retelling traditional stories from Africa and Year 3,4,5 and 6 have participated in an exciting ‘Quest for Windrush’ workshop.
